The data is first filtered by the country where the node is located from the EM-DAT database, then further screened according to disaster impacts, and categorized by nodes.

EM-DAT is a global database on natural and technological disasters, containing basic core data on the occurrence and impacts of more than 21,000 disasters across the world since 1900. It is maintained by the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) at the School of Public Health of the Catholic University of Louvain in Brussels, Belgium.

The primary goal of this database is to support humanitarian operations at both national and international levels. This initiative aims to rationalize decision-making for disaster preparedness, and provide an objective foundation for vulnerability assessments and priority determination.

The database aggregates information from diverse sources including United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations, insurance companies, research institutions and news media. Priority is given to data from United Nations agencies, national governments, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. This priority order not only reflects the quality and value of the data, but also takes into account that most reporting sources do not cover all disasters, or are subject to political restrictions that may affect the reported figures.

These records are constantly reviewed for inconsistencies, redundancies and incompleteness. CRED integrates and updates the data daily, conducts additional checks on a monthly basis, and performs full revisions at the end of each calendar year.
