Studies of microbial diversity on Manis javanica

Maintaining this species in captivity is an effective way to protect them, confronting a significant challenge, such as their weak immune system and high incidence of disease, which seriously restricts population development. Among these diseases, diarrhea represents one of the most common diseases in captive-bred M. javanica. However, the characteristics of intestinal microbiota in M. javanica with diarrhea remain unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to utilize high-throughput 16S-rRNA gene sequencing to comprehensively analyze and compare the composition and structure of fecal microbiota of M. javanica with healthy situation or diarrhea, with the goal of providing a scientific basis for the prevention and control of diarrhea of M. javanica, thereby improving the health of the captive M. javanica population.
