The data contains soil properties following laboratory heating treatment of five soils to six temperatures (150, 250, 350, 450, 550 and 650 Celsius).<br><b><i>Description of variables: </i></b><br><b>Soil Series:</b> Soil series Geographic location (decimal degrees) Vista 36.97141 N, 119.56800 W Musick 37.06073 N, 119.37348 W Shaver 37.05405 N, 119.14498 W Sirretta 37.16189 N, 119.20198 W Chiquito 37.29214 N, 119.09464 W <br><b>Replicate:</b> Sample replicate identification number.<br><br><b>Heating Temperature:</b> Treatment temperature in Celsius. Untreated/control samples are assigned the value 25 (~room temperature). <br><br><b>Masslost:</b><br> Mass percent lost.<br><b>Aggregate stability:</b> Water stable aggregate percent of soils measured by wet-sieving.<br><b>pH-water:</b> Soil pH measured in 1:2 suspension-solution ratio mixture in a deionized water.<br><b>pH-CaCl2:</b> Soil pH measured in 1:2 suspension-solution ratio mixture in 0.01M CaCl<sub>2</sub> solution.<br><b>Specific Surface Area:</b> Mass loss adjusted specific surface area in m<sup>2</sup>/g measured by an automated N<sub>2</sub>-BET analyzer.<br><br><b>CEC:</b> Mass loss adjusted cation exchange capacity in cmol<sub>c</sub>/kg measured by barium exchange method. Values below the instrument minimum detection limit (2cmol<sub>c</sub>/kg) have been assigned a value of 1.<br><b>Macroaggregate:</b> Mass percent of 2-0.25 mm size aggregates determined by dry-sieving.<br><b>Microaggregates:</b> Mass percent of 0.25-0.053 mm size aggregates determined by dry-sieving.<br><br><b>Silt-clay-size:</b> Mass percent of &lt;0.053 mm size aggregates determined by dry-sieving.<br><br><b>del-15-N:</b> Per mill (‰) δ<sup>15</sup>N isotope concentration.<br><br><b>del-13-C:</b>Per mill (‰) δ<sup>13</sup>C isotope concentration.<br><br><b>N:</b> Mass percent nitrogen concentration.<br><b>C:</b> Mass percent carbon concentration<br><b>C:N ratio:</b> Carbon to nitrogen elemental mass ratio.<br><b>Size Fraction:</b> Aggregate size class determined by dry-sieving.<br><b><i>Data description for the FTIR data:</i></b><br>The fist column is the mid infrared wavenumber from Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) in cm<sup>-1</sup>.<br><br>The rest of the columns are the relative infrared absorption spectrum values for each sample-treatment combination.<br><br><br>
