Replication Data for: The Localization of Politics in Municipal Electoral Competition in Chile

This replication package contains all datasets and R code necessary to reproduce the empirical analysis presented in the chapter “La localización de la política en la competencia electoral municipal en Chile.” The study examines the extent to which political competition in Chile’s municipal elections reflects locally rooted dynamics versus nationally structured party competition. Using harmonized electoral results for mayoral and council elections, the chapter develops and applies indicators of party system nationalization, fragmentation, and local versus national competition. It also builds a typology of electoral contests based on supply- and demand-side features of party competition. The dataset includes cleaned municipal election results, constructed measures of nationalization and localization, and all derived variables used in the figures and tables of the chapter. The replication code reproduces descriptive statistics, difference-in-means analyses, typology classifications, and multilevel variance decomposition models. All analyses are implemented in a single script (analysis.R) and rely exclusively on publicly available electoral microdata. The package is provided for academic, scientific, and reproducibility purposes.
