Anadromous Salmonid Passage Facility Design

In cases such as applications for a FERC license, ESA consultation, ESA Section 9 Enforcement activity, or ESA permit, a preliminary design for a fish passage facility must be developed in an interactive process with NMFS NWR Hydropower Division engineering staff. For all fish passage facility projects, the preliminary design should be developed based on a synthesis of the required site and biological information listed below. In general, NMFS will review fish passage facility designs in the context of how the required site and the biological information was integrated into the design. Submittal of all information discussed below may not be required in writing for NMFS review. However, the applicant should be prepared to describe how the biological and site information listed below was included in the development of the preliminary design. NMFS will be available to discuss these criteria in general or in the context of a specific site.
