Ice cover data were sourced from NOAA – GLERL Great Lakes Historical Ice Cover (https://www.glerl.noaa.gov/data/ice/). Drowning statistics for the great lakes were sourced from the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project (https://glsrp.org).
