Summary
This repository contains predicted distribution maps for heliconiine butterflies issued from the analyses presented in this research paper:
“Pérochon et al., 2025 - Müllerian mimicry in Neotropical butterflies: One mimicry ring to bring them all, and in the jungle bind them” https://doi.org/10.1111/000000
Associated archives
Maps are derived from distribution models run on occurrences data available in an other associated archive: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10906853.
Phenotypic classification applied in this study can be found in this associated archive: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10903197.
Scripts to reproduce these maps are available on Github at https://github.com/EddiePerochon/Heliconiini_Diversity.
Contents
This repository contains three folders with multiple maps in PDF format:
:file_folder: Subspecies_maps: 439 maps of habitat suitability depicting current distribution of each heliconiine subspecies.
:file_folder: OMU_maps: 141 maps of habitat suitability depicting current distribution of each OMU (Operational Mimicry Unit as set of subspecies within the same species that shared the same mimetic wing pattern).
:file_folder: Species_maps: 74 maps of habitat suitability depicting current distribution of each heliconiine species.
:file_folder: Phenotypic_group_maps/Range_maps: 38 maps depicting current distribution of phenotypic group (including all OMUs sharing the same wing color pattern).
:file_folder: Phenotypic_group_maps/Richness_maps: 38 maps of local richness for each phenotypic group estimated as the number of local species/OMUs sharing this wing color pattern.
