30 medical students from the University of Basel participated in a 16-hour workshop entitled ‘How Physicians Deal with Failure in Medicine’. Two senior surgeons and a life and leadership coach facilitated the workshop between August 2021 and February 2022, aiming to enable medical learners to reflect on failure and develop useful coping strategies. The authors used a directed qualitative content analysis to analyze pre- and post-workshop reflective essays from the workshop participants.
