Nomarski differential interference contrast image of Eudorina. Eudorina consist of either 16, 32 or 64 (mostly 32) cells embedded in a spherical mass of gelatinous material. Each cell contains a chloroplast (giving them a green color), a red eyespot and two flagella. Eudorina are a free-swimming colonial green algae commonly found in ponds and farm puddles, usually in sufficient concentrations to make the water green.
