Sidewalks provide safe access to public transportation, shopping, and recreation. This map illustrates a classification of streets by their sidewalk level of services to highlight gaps and target funding of infill projects. In mid 2016, an aerial imagery study was performed to draw each foot of street centerline by its sidewalk access: having, sidewalks on one side, both sides, or having no sidewalks on either side of the street. Segments stopped and ended at the change in sidewalks access, rather than at intersections. The resulting segment-level data can be used to report total connectivity, targeted road approaches, and detailed analysis of missing links. The data proves invaluable in discovering sidewalk gaps and estimating the cost for completing the network. It was used to promote special tax (T-SPLOST) proposals to fund infill projects, and current sidewalk project review.</span>
