The invention relates to a safety device for machine tools comprising a machining tool which serves to machine workpieces fed to the machine tool. Said safety device comprises: a detection device designed to detect a situation that is hazardous to an operator of the machine tool， and a hazard-reducing device which is linked to the detection device by electrical signals and is designed to carry out a measure for reducing the hazardous situation when it receives a hazard signal from the detection device signaling a situation that is hazardous to the operator.
