This chapter examines the capacity of science and technology parks in China to generate and absorb knowledge spillovers. Knowledge spillovers are measured by patent citations. 22,617 patent citations of listed firms are matched with similar non-patent citations. STPs emit more knowledge spillovers than non-STPs. Spillovers occur more between STPs than within STPs. Knowledge spillovers diminish with distance when originating in non-STPs but not when originating in STPs. STPs generate relatively less spillovers in high-tier cities than in low-tier cities and among highly-cited patents than among low-cited patents.
