The intramolecular aldol-like condensation
of two acetimino ligands has been observed for the first
time to occur in [Rh(Cp*)Cl(NHCMe2)2]ClO4 (1·ClO4),
under catalytic or stoichiometric reaction conditions, to
give [Rh(Cp*)Cl{N,N-NHC(Me)CH2C(Me)2NH2}]X (2·X, X = Cl, ClO4). The crystal structures of 1·ClO4 and
2·Cl have been determined.
