Compositions of Soil, Sediment, and Water in SW Bangladesh

Samples of rice paddy soil, tidal channel sediment, and water were collected from five different sites in SW Bangladesh in May and November of 2016 and chemically analyzed to characterize element mobilities and the geochemical factors controlling them. Soil and sediment samples were found to have compositions similar to each other and to average upper continental crust. Disequilibrium partitioning of elements between solids and water or deionized water extracts was observed, although apparent partition coefficients mostly show the expected order of element mobilities. Solid compositions do not change seasonally while surface water compositions do, and little spatial variation was observed.
