'''Short description:'''The Arctic Ocean Surface Currents Analysis and Forecast system uses the HYCOM model at 3 km resolution forced with tides at its lateral boundaries, surface winds sea level pressure from the ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) and wave terms (Stokes-Coriolis drift, stress and parameterisation of mixing by Langmuir cells) from the Arctic wave forecast. HYCOM runs daily providing 10 days forecast. The output variables are the surface currents and sea surface heights, provided at 15 minutes frequency, which therefore include mesoscale signals (though without data assimilation so far), tides and storm surge signals.
