Representative records: representative records

exemplary records to represent a single typical value of an attribute for a taxon.

This resource lists existing records that are tagged in the database as representative (REP) and/or primary (PRM) records. Records for adult lifestages are preferred where appropriate (eg, for body size) and measures of central tendency are preferred (eg: mean, median). Multiple records with similar metadata may be selected as Representative (REP) records. A record from the middle of a numerical value range is also tagged as the Primary (PRM) record. For instance, a plant with height records (all for mature plants and representing the mean of a dataset) of 60cm, 79cm, and 1m will have a PRM record of 79 cm. Categorical values are summarized by superclass (umbrella) categories.
