This data product is the Global Snowmelt Onset dataset derived from satellite-borne microwave radiometer observation data. By combining the melting retrievals of sea ice, ice sheets and terrestrial snow cover from radiometer data, this dataset spanning 40 years (1979–2018) has been developed. It is generated separately for the Northern and Southern Hemispheres on an annual basis, with a spatial resolution of 25 kilometers. The integrated global snowmelt onset dataset provides new insights into the climate dynamics of the cryosphere and associated atmospheric controls, and holds great significance for advancing research on polar and global change.
