Shealth blight caused by R. solani AG1 subgroup IA is the second most devastating disease of rice after rice blast. Here we report the draft genome sequence of a Malaysian R. solani AG1-IA strain 1802/KB, which was isolated from the diseased rice tissues from paddy fields in Malaysia. The availability of this draft genome sequence serves as the foundation for future transcriptomic, proteomic and comparative genomics analyses to understand the mode of infection and evolution of this phytopathogen. The acquired knowledge of these studies could improve the control of sheath blight disease in rice-growing areas worldwide.
