Attitudes, Knowledge and Behaviours Regarding Child Restraint System (CRS) Use in the United Arab Emirates

Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death among children in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), However, despite the enactment of Ministerial Resolution No. 178 in 2017, which mandates child restraint system (CRS) use, the compliance remains low, particularly among children aged five and older. This PhD research investigates the frequency and appropriateness of CRS use in private vehicles across the UAE and identifies the behavioural, cultural, and structural factors influencing compliance. Using a mixed-methods design and guided by the Social Ecological Model, the study provides a multi-level understanding of CRS use to inform targeted, culturally relevant interventions and policies.
