Area monograph Soils on the Lower Rhine

The “Böden am Niederrhein” covers the Lower Rhine Bay and the Lower Rhine lowlands and summarises the results from more than 40 years of soil mapping of the Geological Service NRW. After an introduction to natural space and climate as well as the history of the earth and landscape, the origin, distribution, properties of the soils and their substrates are described in detail. This is done on different scale levels and maps from soil regions to soil landscapes to guide soil companies with their most important soil shapes and exemplary profiles. The latter are supplemented by characteristics of humus levels, grain sizes, pH values and base saturations. Notes on the use and danger of soils as well as existing maps complete the monograph.
