Prevalence of Candida albicans in adolescent fixed orthodontic gingivitis patients and the changes of supragingival microbiome

Gingivitis is a common complication in adolescent fixed orthodontic patients. The dysbiosis of the supragingival plaque microbiome may exacerbate the development of gingivitis. Moreover, the carriage of Candida albicans and its correlation with the oral microbiome in the context of gingivitis remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the differences in the supragingival plaque microbiome and the colonization rate of Candida albicans in adolescent fixed orthodontic patients under health and gingivitis conditions, so as to explore their potential role in the pathogenesis of orthodontic gingivitis.
