Since the early 1970s the European Commission´s Standard & Special Eurobarometer are regularly monitoring the public opinion in the European Union member countries. Principal investigators are the Directorate-General Communication and on occasion other departments of the European Commission or the European Parliament. Over time, candidate and accession countries were included in the Standard Eurobarometer Series. Selected questions or modules may not have been surveyed in each sample. Please consult the basic questionnaire for more information on country filter instructions or other questionnaire routing filters. In this study the following modules are included: 1. Passenger rights, 2. Development aid.<br>Topics: 1. Passenger rights: use of the following transport services during the last twelve months: local urban transport, national rail transport, international rail transport, air transport, long-distance coach transport, ship or ferry services; awareness of the rights and obligations linked to buying a ticket from a transport company; awareness and information regarding passenger rights; sources of information on passenger rights; approval of selected statements on passenger information given by air, railway, ship or ferry transport, or by long-distance coach services: appropriate information on passenger rights, transparent information about the full ticket price, appropriate information on details of the trip; experienced travel disruptions in the last twelve months in the aforementioned services and kind of disruptions; satisfaction with the application of the following rights in case of travel disruption: information regarding the disruption, assistance, financial compensation in case of service failures; contacted services in case of cancellation or delay of travel in order to obtain own rights: operating company, national authority in charge of the application of passenger rights, consumer association, lawyer, out-of-court dispute resolution body; complaint and reasons for not complaining regarding the most recent disruption; satisfaction with the management of the complaint; requested assistance for respondent himself or for another person in case of disability or reduced mobility when travelling with the aforementioned services; satisfaction with the assistance; pre-notification of the assistance needs to the transport company; use of a single ticket combining different modes of transport in the last twelve months; problems when using such a ticket; frequency of disturbance by transport noise in daily life and kind of noise; preferred bodies to finance additional measures to reduce transport noise in respondent’s residential area: public authorities, transport users, citizens in general, transport companies.
2. Development aid: importance to help people in developing countries; awareness of 2015 being the European Year for Development; most important challenges in development countries; attitude towards increasing development aid; willingness to pay more for products from development countries in order to support people living there: no willingness, up to 5 % more, between 6 to 10 % more, more than 10 % more; attitude towards the following statements regarding tackling poverty in development countries: individual can influence the process, should be a main priority of the EU, should be a main priority of the national government, has a positive influence on EU citizens, is in the EU’s own interest, is a moral obligation for the EU, contributes to a more peaceful and equal world; personal engagement in helping developing countries: political engagement, volunteering in an organisation, giving money to an organisation, no engagement; most important elements for leading a life in decent conditions; assessment of selected measures to reduce poverty in developing countries: donating to organisations, volunteering in organisations, official development aid; self-rated knowledge about the use of the national and the EU development aid; used sources of information with regard to development aid.
Demography: nationality; left-right self-placement; marital status; age at end of education; sex; age; occupation; professional position; type of community; household composition and household size; own a mobile phone and fixed (landline) phone; possession of durable goods (entertainment electronics, internet connection, possession of a car, a flat/a house have finished paying for or still paying for); financial difficulties during the last year; self-rated social position (scale); internet use (at home, at work, at school); self-reported belonging to the working class, the middle class or the upper class of society; life satisfaction; frequency of discussions about political matters on national, European, and local level; own voice counts in the own country and in the EU; general direction things are going in the own country and in the EU.
Additionally coded was: respondent ID; country; size of locality; region; language of the interview; nation group; weighting factor.
