In the Ortiz-Barrientos Lab in the School of Biological Sciences, they study the genetics of speciation and adaptation. They are developing a new system of study to answer questions on the replicated evolution of traits and reproductive isolation, the early stages of speciation and the origin of ecotypes, the molecular causes of reproductive isolation and adaptation, and the quantitative genetics of ecologically important traits and fitness. Funded by the ARC, the lab uses a combination of both field and molecular work to address the genetic basis of speciation, adaptation and parallel evolution.
