Three asymmetries contribute to meiotic drive in females, one of which is differences between homologous chromosomes that influence the segregation process. The underlying mechanisms by which centromeres can drive in meiosis by biasing segregation are unknown. The goal of this study is to identify the molecular basis for differences in centromere strength that underlie meiotic drive during female meiosis using a mouse model system.
