Arabidopsis requires a stearoyl-ACP desaturase for proper interaction with beneficial rhizobacteria

To explore the role of Arabidopsis GP1 in plant interactions with microbes, we investigated the rhizosphere and root endosphere microbiomes of gp1-1, wt, and the PGP1::GP1-FLAG complementation line. Because the wt plant is in the Col-0 background and contains a 35S::SUC2 transgene that encodes a sucrose transporter, the microbiomes associated with Col-0 were examined in parallel so as to further assess potential impacts of 35S::SUC2 on the root microbiome. The bacteria communities were profiled by 16s rDNA sequencing of DNA samples from the three compartments of bulk soil, rhizosphere, and endosphere.
