Bacterial infections with a biofilm component are associated with a high risk of patient morbidity and mortality. This is in part a consequence of the recalcitrance of biofilms to antibacterial chemotherapy. Here we present the complete nucleotide sequence of Staphylococcus aureus UAMS-1, a clinical isolate that produces prolific biofilms. Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogen known to cause serious human infections. It is therefore intended that this information can be utilized to gain a greater understanding of the mechanistic basis of biofilm formation, which could then be exploited to produce novel anti-biofilm therapeutics.
