NRS-4965 | Registers of admissions and discharges [Macquarie Street Asylum, Parramatta]

This series records the admission and discharge of patients at the Macquarie Street Asylum at Parramatta.The registers record weekly entries of admissions and discharges. The admissions are on the left hand page recording: name; age; date of admission; remarks. Discharges are recorded on the right hand page and show: name; date of admission; age; date of discharge; total; remarks.The admissions remarks field records the name of the person who made the referral. The discharge remarks field records the reason why the person was discharged. Examples reasons for discharge include: the patient had died along with the precise time, transferred to another asylum, absconded or was discharged on own request.From 15 November 1919 the template changed. It still recorded the same admission and discharge information but two additional columns were added to the admission page. A column for card numbers and the last address of the patient were added to the admission information.Contained in the back of the 1893-1896 register are some miscellaneous papers relating to the Lidcombe State Hospital and Home for Men. Amongst these papers are included extracts from statistical returns for the year ending 1936 and correspondence from the Medical Superintendent also dated 1936.Custody HistoryThe 1893-1896 register came as an archival estray in 2010. This was previously in the custody of John McClymont and was generously donated by Bev McClymont.
