12q amplification in liposarcoma

A cohort of liposarcomas with either rod-shaped markers or ring chromosomes was analyzed with regard to copy number variation. In cases with co-amplification of other chromosomes, the data suggested a stepwise process, starting with gain of parts of chromosome 12, followed by cycles of BFB events. Co-amplification with other chromosomes seems to occur through the formation of dicentric chromosomes. The data also suggest that some lipomas could develop into WDLS through stepwise gain of 12q material.
