Aspirin as chemoprevention therapy for keratinocyte carcinoma

Skin cancer is the most frequent cancer diagnosed, and incidence continues to increase for those with fair skin and significant prior UV exposure, despite preventive campaigns. The enormous burden of skin cancer in Australia leads to significant morbidity, mortality and economic costs. The aim of this thesis was to understand the role of aspirin, and other medications, in squamous and basal cell carcinoma and melanoma prevention, to inform skin cancer prevention strategies. Analysis of the ASPREE (ASPirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly) Australian trial, compared skin cancer development between those taking aspirin or other medications and those not.
