Chromosome-level genome assembly of wild perennial soybean Glycine canescens

Genetic bottlenecks during domestication have led to low genetic diversity, which restricts soybean breeding. In contrast, perennial wild soybeans exhibit high genetic diversity, especially with excellent tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Glycine canescens is one of the few perennial wild soybeans that have been successfully hybridized with cultivated soybean, holding significant application value in soybean breeding. In this study, we assembled a chromosome-level genome of Glycine canescens, with a total genome length of 933 Mb and a scaffold N50 length of 47.24 Mb. The genome completeness is estimated to be 98.4% based on BUSCO evaluation. A total of 54,961 protein-coding genes were predicted in the genome, of which 23,790 genes were classified as core genes. Our work provides a new genomic resource for the soybean breeding.
