"The occurrence of lightningcaused and man-caused fires in Alaska is related to the circulation pattern at the 500 mb level. Probability forecasts of fire occurrence and forecast number of fire starts were made from 500 mb map data. Verification of forecasts shows a good relation between forecast and observed fire occurrence."
