Children and parents reviewed a picture book together containing animals commonly found in a reptile house (snakes, spiders, turtles, lizards) that are considered varying levels of biological threat to humans. Participants were randomly assigned to a control condition or an instruction condition, which provided instructions about the role of parent's language in shaping children's fear of animals.
