A Study on Morphological Characters and Gut Content of Flatfish Available in General Santos City Public Market

This dataset consists of quantitative measurements, gut content data, and images of four identified flatfish species collected at the General Santos City Public Market, Philippines, between November 6, 2024 and January 20, 2025. It includes all specimens' morphometric measurements (e.g. total lengths, widths, heights) and meristic counts (e.g. fin-ray counts) recorded by an ID. The four species are Brachirus aspilos (one-eyed sole), Dexillus muelleri (Tufted sole), Pardachirus pavoninus (Peacock sole), and Bothus pantherinus (Leopard flounder). Flatfish data.xlsx contains morphometric and meristic data for all specimens. The Raw Data sheet lists each specimen ID, scientific and common names, and recorded measurements/counts for that individual. A Source data sheet for the pivot table and a pivot summary (filtered by species) that compiles each morphological character value by specimen ID. Flatfish-Gut Content Analysis.xlsx contains gut content data for the same specimens. The Raw Data sheet lists prey items found in each specimen's gut, along with percent volume and digestion rate. The Pivot table sheet (filtered by scientific name, gut status, volume, and digestion rate) summarizes the prey occurrence. In this file, a "/" symbol indicates the presence of a given prey item in that specimen's gut (absence is blank). PNG images of specimens as representatives of each species are available.
