资源简介:

The NeoBAC study aimed to investigate how often bacterial blood stream infections occur in newborns, which bacteria cause them, and whether they are resistant to particular antibiotics. As part of routine clinical care, all newborn babies had a blood sample taken for culture to see if any bacteria could be grown. After the sample was taken, the babies were started on standard intravenous antibiotic treatment as was usual in these hospitals. Results obtained from the blood culture test were fed back to inform care and help ensure the babies were receiving effective antibiotic treatment. Knowing what bacteria caused infections could inform infection control initiatives and improve antibiotics stewardship. Results from this study informed the design of future studies aimed at improving patient care and reducing mortality.

The dataset contains the following files:

Neobac data final - This dataset contains clinical information for 8707 neonates (<28 days) who were admitted to paediatric wards, HDU or NBU and prior to starting first-line IV antibiotics (Mbagathi, Kilifi and Kiambu) and were eligible for blood culture to be done as part of the routine admission investigations.
A Day 28 outcome follow-up for vital status was done to assess outcome following discharge from hospital. This was achieved by taking consent prior to discharge for collection of address locator information and for study staff to contact parents by phone in the first instance to record i) vital status and ii) any overnight admission to a hospital 28 day after the date of admission. Those who were not reachable by phone were followed up with a home visit by fieldworkers.

Blood culture - Dataset contains information on blood culture tests.

AST_Results - Dataset contains information about the resistance profile of bacteria isolates against various antibiotics.

Environmental swabs isolates - Dataset contains information on swabs collected from surfaces, equipment, and other environmental sources to detect and identify microbial contamination.
