Dataset for: Groundwater Entropy as a Surrogate for Structural Connectivity in Crystalline Aquifers

This dataset supports the study "Groundwater Entropy as a Surrogate for Structural Connectivity in Crystalline Aquifers." It contains the field data, geospatial layers, and analysis code used to characterize fracture-controlled aquifer behavior in the Berambadi catchment (about 84 km2), part of the Kabini Critical Zone Observatory (SNO M-TROPICS, OZCAR research infrastructure) in the Kabini/Cauvery basin of southern India. Coordinates are in WGS 84 / UTM Zone 43N. Files: Fractures.xlsx contains borehole-camera fracture observations (well coordinates, ground elevation, total borehole depth, casing depth, and depths of visible fracture intersections) used to derive submerged fracture density. Specific_Capacity (.shp/.dbf/.shx) is a point shapefile of specific-capacity wells with discharge, drawdown, and computed specific capacity. Zones (.shp/.dbf/.shx) is the 4x4 zonation grid used to reconcile the datasets. Boundary (.shp/.dbf/.shx) is the catchment boundary. SampEn.m is a MATLAB script that reproduces the full computational workflow: within-well standardization of the groundwater-level series, sample entropy, zonal aggregation, submerged fracture density, log-transformed specific capacity, Pearson correlations among the zonal indicators, zonal anomaly scores and ranking, and the lag-1 return-map and state-velocity phase-space diagnostics. The groundwater-level (depth-to-water) monitoring time series used to compute sample entropy are not included here. They are maintained by the Kabini Critical Zone Observatory / M-TROPICS database (https://mtropics.obs-mip.fr/) and are available through that observatory.
