This dataset contains histological image stacks of the developing shoulder region in embryos of birds and reptiles. These data were used to reconstruct and compare the embryonic shoulder girdle during furcula development, supporting the analyses presented in the manuscript “Embryos resolve the enigmatic origin of the theropod wishbone.” species included are: Gallus gallus, Nothoprocta perdicaria, Trachemys scriptus, Caiman yacare and Iguana iguana
