HIGHLIGHTS (1) The coal matrix, clay, pyrite, and calcite are distinguished based on shape factor and gray value parameters. (2) For the three types of water-sensitive reservoirs (weak, moderate, and strong) classified based on clay mineral content, differentiated pressure reduction control is implemented: a slow pressure reduction strategy is adopted for moderate and strong water-sensitive reservoirs, while a moderate acceleration of pressure reduction is allowed for weak water-sensitive reservoirs. (3) The significant negative correlation between clay mineral content and gas content, along with its prediction model (with an error of less than 10%), can effectively reduce the exploration risk of sweet spot target areas and provide a key geological decision-making basis for the design of horizontal well trajectories.
