hESC-derived cardiomyocytes were exposed to SSRIs throughout differentiation

In this study, we investigated the effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs, antidepressants) on cardiomyocytes derived from human stem cells. The H1 human embryonic stem cells (H1-hESCs) were differentiated into cardiomyocytes, and the cells were treated with three SSIRs at their no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL, 500nM) during entire differentiation, including fluoxetine, paroxetine, and sertraline. Changes in the transcriptome of cardiomyocytes were investigated by RNA-seq.
