Gridded data of township-level population distribution in Shandong Province (2000 & 2010)

The spatial distribution data of the gridded population is a more fine-scale spatial distribution data of the population, which is of great significance for supporting research on geography, resources, environment, ecology, disasters, and sustainable development. Based urban and rural two-level partition method, this paper used the township-level demographic data of Shandong Province as the control unit and used the spatialization method combining the enhanced vegetation index adjusted nighttime light index and land use data. Finally, the gridded population data SDpop2000 and SDpop2010 of 100 m resolution in Shandong Province was generated. The model accuracy verification results showed that 78.0% and 78.4% of the administrative units in 2000 and 2010 respectively had an absolute relative error of less than 20%. The spatialization results are compared with global WorldPop population data products. The results showed that the correlation coefficient and %RMSE in 2000 are 0.932 and 38.42%, and the correlation coefficient and %RMSE in 2010 are 0.948 and 40.46%.
