The purpose of this study is to investigate a multidrug-resistant strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae, ST1788, that has been spreading among patients in healthcare facilities across South Wales. We aim to understand the diversity, evolution and transmission dynamics of the strain and identify molecular markers to aid development of a strain-specific real-time PCR.
