This dataset contains multiproxy data from the upper 25 m of core LL1 collected from Li’an Lagoon, southeastern Hainan Island, northern South China Sea. The dataset supports the manuscript entitled “A 41 ka sedimentary record of coastal environmental change from Li’an Lagoon, northern South China Sea”.
The Excel file includes four worksheets: grain-size data, chronological data, TOC and δ13C data, and elemental geochemical data. The grain-size dataset includes depth-related sedimentological parameters, including clay, silt and sand fractions, mean grain size, sorting, skewness and kurtosis. The chronological dataset includes age-control information used to establish the age-depth framework of core LL1. The TOC and δ13C dataset records organic geochemical variations, while the elemental geochemistry dataset includes selected elemental data and ratios used to interpret terrestrial input, marine influence and environmental change.
These data were used to reconstruct the long-term environmental evolution of Li’an Lagoon over the past ~41 ka, identify a Mid-Holocene flood-dominated terrestrial runoff event layer, and evaluate the roles of relative sea-level change and regional hydroclimatic forcing in lagoon development. The dataset can be used to reproduce the main sedimentary, chronological and geochemical results presented in the manuscript.
