Total species list of the mapped insects from the peatlands of Berlin, Germany

As the most populous city in Germany, Berlin also features a diverse range of habitats for flora and fauna within its metropolitan region. These include several peatlands whose potential as habitats for a variety of insects was documented as part of the research project Datenschätze analysieren, aufbereiten und kommunizieren. Die Zukunft der Wirbellosendiversität in Feuchtlebensräumen Berlins“ (Funding: Senatsverwaltung für Mobilitat, Verkehr, Klimaschutz und Umwelt). In order to gain a detailed understanding of the biodiversity present in urban peatland ecosystems, a range of invertebrate species were identified and mapped at 22 study sites between 2023 and 2024. This resulted in a total of 9,685 individuals belonging to 384 species being monitored, encompassing 43 species of butterfly, 29 species of dragonfly, 29 species of locust, 90 species of ground beetle, 109 species of wild bee, 18 species of hoverfly, and 66 additional species of diptera.
