Bordetella avium is a respiratory pathogen in commercially raised turkeys. Specific adherence to the respiratory epithelium and ciliostatic effect are crucial pathogenetic characteristics, but knowledge about the mechanisms and the manifestation of virulence in field strains is limited. To analyse the genetic diversity of Bordetella avium strains by core genome multilocus sequence typing (cgMLST), field strains are isolated and their genomes sequenced by next generation sequencing.
