Metagenomic and bioinformatics techniques were applied for the microbial description of a military impacted lagoon in Vieques, Puerto Rico, in parallel comparison with not military impacted lagoons in Puerto Rico. Microbial composition and gene annotation analyses were performed in order to find bioindicators of contamination associated to explosives and heavy metals, as well as biodegradation genes.
