资源简介:
This video collection celebrates the remarkable creativity and self-directed initiative shown by students as they internalised and innovated upon taught techniques in piano pedagogy. Rather than merely replicating exercises, these young pianists actively adapted, personalised, and expanded concepts to deepen their understanding, making practice both more effective and enjoyable. The first segment features a student practising four-note slurs. Rather than rushing through full octaves, she focuses on the initial “gesture” of the first four notes of various major scales. This segmented approach emphasises whole-arm technique, ensuring the fingers remain grounded and “reliable” through enhanced fingering before transitioning into the full scale. This deliberate simplification effectively reduces cognitive load, enabling greater precision. In another clip, a student utilises a Rubik’s Cube as a surrogate to practise wrist and forearm flexibility away from the piano. By navigating the cube’s rotations, she mimics the specific wrist movements and forearm rotations (supination and pronation) taught in class. By choosing a portable, entertaining object as a stand-in for technical drills, she has enabled discreet, frequent practice throughout her day. This clever adaptation proves that technical development need not be confined to the piano bench, turning everyday moments into opportunities for reinforcement. These examples illustrate students as active, observant creators—keenly applying learned principles beyond the lesson room, seeking novel applications, and infusing their practice with joy and autonomy. Their innovations not only accelerate technical progress in slurs, scales, and relaxation but also cultivate lifelong habits of creative problem-solving and self-motivated growth. These videos form part of a broader research project investigating the development of coordinated movement in piano performance, with applications in piano pedagogy, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.
