This study set out to identify whether subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) systems impact on soil microbial communities, a critical component of soil health and plant performance. Using DNA amplicon sequencing techniques, we characterized the bacterial and fungal communities near and distant from SDI emitters in two fields, one with a 5-year-old SDI system and one with a 1-year-old SDI system.
