Endurance exercise induces metabolic adaptations and has recently been associated with the modulation of a particular class of small noncoding RNAs, micro RNAs, that act as post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression. Released into body fluids, they are referred to as ci-miRNAs, and they have been recognized as highly effective and accurate biomarkers when compared to classical serum markers. This study examined the full scope of ci-miRNAs through massive parallel sequencing in response to prolonged endurance exercise in serum samples obtained by four competitive Arabian horses before and two hours after the end of competition.
