Human Nasal Epithelial Transcriptome Exposed to Thirdhand Smoke

Although prior studies demonstrate humans are at risk of exposure to THS, the molecular effects of such exposure on humans have not been investigated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of inhalation of THS chemicals on gene expression in humans. Nasal scrapes were sampled from non-smokers before and after 3 hours of exposure to either clean air or to THS, subjected to mRNA sequencing (mRNA-seq), and analyzed for differential expression of genes (DEG).
