VPRS 16911 Mortuary Books

The books were maintained by the Anatomical Pathology Department of the Royal Children's Hospital (RCH). Information recorded includes name of deceased, sex, age, dates of death and removal to undertaker, undertaker's name and contact, and in later volumes the hour of removal. Volumes between August 1930 and April 1952 are missing. There is a note in the last volume that suggests the series may have continued after April 2000. A number of pages are missing or have been replaced by photocopies and there is a seven month gap between November 1962 and June 1963.It is not known what records, if any, were maintained prior to 1924.Prior to transfer to Public Record Office Victoria, the records in this series were maintained as part of the Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) Archives. They were part of RCH accession number 2002/003 and 2002/001.
