Plants of the sugarcane cultivar SP80-3280, the S. spontaneum genotype IN84-58 and eight interspecific hybrids obtained from the cross between the previously cited genotypes were planted under field condition at Agricultural Sciences Centre of the Federal University of Sao Carlos in Araras - Sao Paulo, Brazil. Tissue samples of the +1 leaf (L1) and upper (I1) and maturing (I5) internodes were collected from three biological replicates when the plants were 4, 8 and 12 months of age.
